2nd Annual Tri State Renaissance Faire to be held November 21 – 23, 2008 at Rotary Park in Bullhead City
My dad took me to a Renaissance fair when I was a little kid. My random memories of that day include people waiting in a line to get a kiss, something with a rope bridge, giant turkey legs, men and women dressed in old costumes, sword fights, and – oddly enough – some kind of home show in the back where they were showcasing spas and patios. I think I was maybe 8 or 9 years old, so the sword fighting was my favorite part. But the whole day did leave an impression. It was like a trip to another world for the day (minus the home show).
So last year when we heard about the Tri State Renaissance Faire being held at the Avi in Fort Mohave, we headed down with the girls to check it out. We took in a few sword fights, browsed through the vendor booths, and the girls got a big kick out of the costumes and the “yes, my lord” and “yes, my lady”‘s
This year the event is taking place at Rotary Park in Bullhead City. Some of the scheduled activities include steel fighting knights in armor (fighting in real swords!), combat demonstrations, games, archery contests, belly dancers, demonstrations of arts of crafts, Gaelic karaoke contest (hmmm?), and musicians.
The 2nd Annual Tri State Renaissance Faire is being presented by The Kingdom of Albion chapter of The Adrian Empire. Their local canton is called Auroch’s Fjord, which loosely translates into “Bull’s Crossing.” No, I am not a Renaissance historian or even an enthusiast. However, after spending some time talking to Christine Hannan of The Adrian Empire and finding out what this event is about, I wanted to share the love. They are raising money for Veterans United, Mohave Valley Boys and Girls Club, and the Alpha 1 Foundation (rare genetic disease research).
Volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed for such things as set up, tear down, help with children’s games, booths, etc. All volunteers get in for free and are provided with costume (with a minimum two hour commitment). If you are interested, please contact Christine Hannan at 928-763-9186.
Free space for non-profits
Local non-profits can get a free table at the fair for fund raising, Renaissance costumes required. Cool!
