“Pirates of the Colorado” the theme for Bullhead City River Regatta Saturday, August 16, 2008
From the Laughlin Visitor’s Bureau website, one of the event sponsors:
Shiver Me Timbers! Thousands of Pirates are expected to invade the Colorado River, August 16, for a bi-state regatta. Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to put together pirate-themed floats and join this jolly extravaganza. This regatta welcomes fun-loving, outdoor enthusiasts to ride on adorned inner tubes; decked out kayaks and canoes; and decorative, non-motorized parade-type floats for a colorful race down the Colorado River. The festivities begin the previous evening at the Bullhead Community Park where you can get the tubes aired up, have some ‘grog’ and grub at the Plank Bar and purchase souvenirs at the Pillage Shop. Launching takes place on Saturday morning from both sides of the river and culminates in a picnic and awards ceremony at Rotary Park.
In other words, it’s a big group float down the river.
Last year there were about 600 participants, but they’ve beefed up the promotion this year and are anticipating somewhere in the range of 2500 people. Like they said, “Shiver me timbers!”
More information, contest rules, and registration form are available on the Bullhead City website.
