The Boys and Girls Club of the Colorado River made front page news last year when Executive Director Brian Velarde was suddenly let go. Brian is a good guy. That was a big blow. The Club was struggling financially and blamed the layoff on budget issues.
The Mohave Daily News today announced that the Boys and Girls Club has found their replacement, Teri Tomlinson, currently serving as Director of Operations for the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce. Major score for the Boys and Girls Club, major loss for the Chamber.
While working for the Chamber, Teri had a focus on developing her leadership and management skills. She attending courses and obtained certifications that no doubt opened the door for this new position with the Boys and Girls Club.
When Teri told me about her new position, I had mixed emotions. As a chamber member, I was bummed to be losing her. She is highly skilled, devoted, and an all around special person. At the same time, I was thrilled for her and more so for the kids that will benefit from having her at the helm starting later this month.
So it’s just one of those things. With every change comes opportunity. I know Teri will do a great job with the Boys and Girls Club. Now it will be up to the Chamber to turn this change into an opportunity and build on it. They are a fine group of people and asset to the business community.
Chamber President, Mike Conner was quoted in the article:
She is truly an asset to our community and I commend her for her professional growth in nonprofit organizational management skills.
Indeed. Congratulations Teri!
